My challenge

Remember my post about the project of module 4? The project was related to info-tech and bio-tech. We made an arcade machine about a chicken which you, as the player, modify. This module, I continued my work on this project, because we were going to Gogbot. This experience shaped my view on the impact of games and developed my awareness of flaws. After the experience, we were asked to keep working on the project, because the university wanted to buy our project. This module, we worked hard on making a better game and better arcade machine. This was done by implementing the lenses, ergonomics and more things that we have learned in Creative Technology. The flaws we noticed at Gogbot have been fixed and because I realise what the impact of game is on some people, I am more motivated and inspired to work on games. These experiences will definitely help me in the future, whether I am going to make more games or anything else (because I have learned how to iterate better, which is always useful).

3d game development

This module, has been incredibly interesting. Our assignment was to make a game or experience in unity. My partner and I decided to make a game that is about drugs. However, the game was more about the experience. We made it very 80s and retro, because this is related to the topic. The game is an endless runner game and the player dodges obstacles while trying to collect pills. They believe this is good, because it looks like a collectible. Moreover, the higher your 'high' is, the cooler the surroundings look. However, at the end of the game we reveal that the less pills you collected, the higher your high score is. In addition, the player dies from an overdose, no matter how you play. Making this game was a bit risky, because we were not sure whether people would play it the way we want (collecting pills) and whether they would be frustrated by the ending. We did a playtest and it turned out that many people fell for it and loved the idea because it is counterintuitive. Most of them understood our message and thought the game play was fun. This was the final step towards implementing all the elements to make it more interesting, interactive and counterintuitive. By now, the game is almost finished, but we are still working hard to make it better. I will post the end result once the game is done!

My challenge

This module, the project had to be an art installation which is about bio-tech and info-tech. My project group decided to make an arcade installation together with a projector. The game is about genetically modified chickens and the message is basically that genetical modification is neither good or bad, it depends on how it is used. We try to show this by giving the player the choice to choose to modify its chicken. Depending on how they choose to do it, they get a positive or negative outcome. Most of the time, it is good for the chicken itself, but sometimes it is bad for the environment around it. We decided to display this at the end of each players game, so they can see that the manipulations they choose have an effect, even if it is not on them. This should make the player think about it. The projection is shown at the end of every game and displays a chicken, which is as genetically modified as the player makes it. This has multiple uses. It is fun for players and a memory, but it also attracts attention of people walking past the machine. The arcade is not completely finished yet, but it seems very promising. We have put a lot of effort into it because we would like to have our machine chosen for Gogbot. Once the installation is finished, I will upload a picture of it in my portfolio!

My challenge

This module, I acquired a new skill. I followed the course 'Introduction to JavaScript' from Codecadamy and learned a bit about it by myself. It was fun and I believe it will be useful in my future projects. Moreover, it has helped me become more disciplined. '

The project

This module, the project I worked on was Senor Sensor Dos. We had to make a device with which children could design, configure and implement 'escape room' style puzzles. It is not completely finished yet, but here is a picture:

The project

This module, my group made an app for our project. The app is a planning/organisation app. The target group is people with autism, but we believe it could be useful for anyone who is a messy planner and could use some help. Here is an example of how it looks:

Tuner

For my programming project, I made a music instrument tuner, which does exactly what it says, but it could also play a certain note back. Moreover, it shows you how close you are to the right note through LEDs. The screen will display a nyan cat which has the same function.

The final project

For our final project, we had to make an interactive video. The only requirement was that the audience should have 5 choices. My group made an interactive video with the theme "first dates", this was fun to make. I am quite satisfied with the result and the audience seemed to be satisfied with it too. Final module expo

The final module expo was fun. Finally, we could all show each other what we have done and what we have created. I was surprised by the wonderful videos and creative posters that my fellow students had made. We got some feedback on our video too and lots of compliments. This will definitely help my development as a Creater.

The art

These are some characters and objects I had made for my first game ever. Some of them are drawn with the purpose of animating them. I made them a year ago for school. Unfortunately I didn’t use all of them in the game, but I still like them, therefore I am displaying them in my portfolio.

My creature
In the last couple of weeks, I worked on my Creature. This was an assignment for programming. We could get one point(out of 10) for it. You could do it with two persons or on your own. I decided to make my Creature on my own. The point of this project was to see if you understood all of the things that were discussed in class and to become familiar with Processing(the program we worked with). I have learned a lot from this project and it was a lot of fun to make. Here it is:
