Portfolio of Joep Blanksma

First showcase piece

On the right you will find my first piece of my portfolio, as you could read in my blog it is an invisible maze that can work on your nerves. Because if you fail you will go back to the first line. Another thing that does not help with your irritation is that you never see where you went.It was made in a javascript workshop on wendsday 19 september the assignment here was to create a game with the skills you just learned.

Second showcase piece

This is another piece of portfolio that i made in java, at the subject processing. 4 weeks ago when I started this program I didn't have any experience in java programming but in this program you can see a happy sun that lights up the screen. But when you press your mouse the night will appear, it will be a happy moon with shining stars. I made this project like this because i was trying out new things I learned. and a changing sun was the best way to show that.

Third showcase piece

My third portfolio piece is an interactive video which I made as an end project voor module 1. I did this together with three other people. We made a video of a burglar and a cop. The interactive part is that the viewer is controlling most of the moves made by the burglar. The viewer can lead the burglar into getting shot, caught or a few other things. We put a lot of humor in the process of making this video and also in the video itself I hope you can enjoy the video if you watch it. It is not a proffesional movie but we put a lot of love in it.

Fourth showcase piece

My fourth portfolio piece contains my first design a lasercutter, it came from a lasercutting workshop I had on 12-12-2018. In this workshop we got a lot of info about lasercutting and got a piece of 100mm by 100mm to design our own part. I created a wanted poster of Waldo, to fully get the joke you have to know that another design of another student contains the Waldo. So with this design we made a little game with Waldo. It's nice to get to know the things behind lasercutting so I can use it in later projects.

Fifth showcase piece

My fifth portfolio piece is a project I recently made it is a smart ligthing system for a bedroom. It contains multiple sensors. One sensor is a Light Depend Sensor it measures the amount of light outside, when the it gets dark the smart system will close the curtains and activate another sensor. This is a distance sensor which measures if somebody walks through the door. If someone walks through the door the light will automatically turn on. Of course there is an overkill switch which you can use to switch on the light by yourself.

Sixt showcase piece

My sixt portfolio piece is the handheld gaming device I made for Human Centered Design. I made an Anti-stress Game. It would help students or employees to get destressed in stressfull stituations. It will only take a few minutes to destress and of course you can also play te gaming device for fun. The balls on the side, as you can see on the right are stressballs. The game is mostly controlled by squeezing the balls which they will destress the user.

Seventh showcase piece

My seventh showcase piece is a different kind of soundboard. But it is not a normal soundboard. It was especially made and altered for one specific person, Paul TrĂ³ssel. He has locked in syndrom and so can only move his left thumb and his eyes. By making this soundboard we gave him more ways to express himself on stage. The soundboard works on time and shows by led's which sound is selected.

Eight showcase piece

My eight showcase piece is the project for module 4, we have made a machine with inside a vein. When you go in the machine you yourself become a nanobot and have to play a game that infulences the health of the person you are in. We hope to create awareness of both the possibilities and the dangers of nanobots. I liked to work on it a lot and are very happy with the result we created.

Ninth showcase piece

For a project of the smart technology module I participated in a hackaton, in this hackaton we got 4 days to create something artistic from a cd player. We wanted to create a reversed strobostopic effect by having dc motors turn wheels with certain animations on them. Behind the wheels there were several lights that could be tuned to a certain frequency to create the strobostopic effect. This tuning was done using an ultrasonic distance sensor that was programmed in such a way that it is an invisible volume button. Besides this effect we also made a tuneable band pass filter, the tuning was done by the same sensor used in the frequency tuning. The effect of this tuning was that more and more frequencies would be filtered out and so created a nice and funny effect.

Tenth showcase piece

In the beginning of 2020 I started, with two friends, a guild of leadership. In this group we talk about leadership. We are figuring out what kind of leaders we want to be and how we can be the best leader possible. For me a big thing is managing versus leading. I want to be personally involved in the people I lead and how I lead them. I want to help them become the best version of themselves. We also talked a lot about motivation, which was very interesting. We looked into kinds of motivations and how we can stimulate these different kinds of motivations. This is an up and running group that will now focus on different subjects and on getting new members to get more input.

Elefenth showcase piece

At home we suffered from bad sound quality when we played our music via our google chromecast. To solve this problem I looked into solutions involving a Raspberry Pi. I had a Pi at home that I was not using so this was a nice apllication to use it for. I attached a Wifi dongle because the raspberry pi 2 I own does not have a Wifi chip. I connected this wifi dongle to our own wifi network. After I had done this I found a way to download spotify connect onto the raspberry Pi. This installation was rather simple and after it was installed it was available in the spotify premium app.
