Welcome to my website! My name is Simone Luiten and I'm a Creative Technology student at the Universtiy Twente. I'm nineteen years old and I was born in The Hague. I graduated in 2017 and took a gap year after. In my gapyear I went to Austria to be a Ski and Snowboard instructor.

I made this site to present myself and my work to the world. I am also going to write a blog and make a portfolio. In my blog I will regularly post stories about activities and my progress. In my portfolio you can find the best of my work.

THE FINAL EXPO OF MODULE 1

6 November 2018

Yesterday we had the final exposition in the Smart XP. Every group showed their own interactive video. I walked around the room and saw a lot of different videos. It was nice to see how each group started with the same assignment, but the results were so different. I liked the video from Kyana her group really much. This is because they used a lot of funny sound effects and the storyline was very interesting.

Also the Visual Comminucation posters were showed in the room. I had only seen the posters of my own group, so it was nice to see al the other posters. On the right side you can see my own viscom poster.

REVIEWING THE SITE A FELLOW STUDENT

For the assignment of this week, we had to review a fellow students site. I reviewed Joris Jager his site. Joris made his site from the start with HTML. Click HERE to see his site.
He did not use a template (also not Javascript,JQuery or plugins), which makes his site less complex and a little bit more boring. I think his site is a little bit too simple. He can add more style to make his site much more interesting, for example a gallery or icons. He could also improve the connections on his site; he only has his email written on the contact page. If he added for example a facebook button, or a form where poeple can email him direct, his site would definitely improve. However, his site works perfectly. The functions are really good and clear to use. Also the content of his portfolio is well written and interesting to read.

With this assignment I learned to look critically at someone else his site. But with that, I learned to look critically at my own site. I realised I was mainly foccused on the look of my side, instead of the function and connections. Joris his site was the complete oppsite. Realising this, has helped me a lot to improve my site. Also the comments an other student made about my site were very handy. At the same time, it is nice to see how other students are doing with their sites.

THE DESIGN OF MY WEBSITE

For this website I use a template from W3-Schools. My code is also in the W3.CSS style. At first it was really really hard to understand the W3.CSS style because I was not used to this style. Now I'm getting better and better in understanding and changing the site to the way I want it to be. In this blog you can see some examples of things I changed and added.

PROGRESS VIDEOSKILLS PROJECT

25 September 2018

Last week we had an introduction lesson about video editing and writing a script. We learned some helpfull tips and tricks about the video world. This week me and my group started with the project. The assignment is to make an interactive video. At our first meeting we figuered out a storyline. The storyline has different paths, so we devided the paths and everyone has one path to write. On monday we will come togehter again to discuss and share our ideas with each other.

WEBSITE DEVOLPMENT

When I heard we had to make our own website I was really excited. I already had an idea how I wanted my site to be. I was planning of designing my site all alone using HTML and CSS. That did not work out so well. I had never used HTML or CSS before and it was all really new for me. I figured the basics out really fast but I knew I could not get my site the way I wanted with only the basics. So I began to search a template from to W3schools website. After a while I found a template that matches (sort of) my idea of my website. I used this template and it has helped a lot. I still need to change a lot to get my site the way I want but it already looks nicer!

GOGBOT FESTIVAL

7 September 2018

Gogbot festival is an festival with all different technical installations and projects. For this assignment I only use the black tent with the Creative Technology installations.
It was very hard for me to pick the best installation. There were around eight installations in the room, and i liked most of them. Still I think one installation is above the others. The installation is called: Korb. The installation is very interactive and looked really nice. Korb is a robot which uses a camera to sense your emotion. After it recognised your emotion, the robot expresses the emotion through colors and a heartbeat. For example when you show the emotion angry, the color turns red, the heart will beat faster and it will pump more blood. I liked it because the installation expresses emotions, by which it is trying to reach human capabilities. Several questions came up to me when I watched this installation; how far will technology take over humans? Can machines interpret emotions the way we do?
The installation that irritate me the most was easier to pick. I was the installation called: Ctrl Why. This installation showed a animal cage with an computer mouse in it. When I was there, the installation did nothing and it was not interactive at all. There was almost no use of technology. In my opinion this installation was, compared to the others, way to easy and did not deserve to be on this festival.

WE CREATE IDENTITY - OKTOBER & NOVEMBER 2018



Our final project of this module was to make an interactive video! We did this in groups of 5. My group and I made a video about a boy called John. In the beginning of the viedo John wakes up and he recieves three messages on his phone. All the messages ask if he is in for a date. When you play our interactive video the purpose is to make John have a date with a happily ever after.



You can make the choices about who John is going to date, what they are going to do and many other things.
While shooting the shots for this video, we tried to use a lot of differant angles. For example we have zoomed in shots, overall shots and over the shoulder shots. It was a lot of fun to make this project.


MY LOGO - SEPTEMBER 2018
First you can see the devolpment of my logo. I wanted to do something that is typically me. I really love mountains and skiing so that was my first idea. From left to right you can see my progress with the logo. I designed a lot of different logo's but I was never completly happy about it. The logo most to the right is my last version.

INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION
SEPTEMBER 2018

For the subject Intercultural Communication we had to make a video about cultural differances. With my group we made a video about a Turkish boy who now lives in The Netherlands. He is not ready to let his Turkish culture go. In the video you can see the differances between a Dutch student and the Turkish boy. We used the "Cultural dominance" chaper from the book: "".

PROGRAMMING - SEPTEMBER & OKTOBER 2018
The first big assignment for programming is designing and making your own creature. This creature should be albe to do something, for example move or change color. My creatures are able to do multipule things. For example when you press the key 'A', the creatures are going to sleep. When you press the key 'Z', the creatures are bouncing through the screen and changing color at each bounce. You can try it yourself!
