Story

Our game will feature a linear story. We have chosen for a linear story, beacuse after some research, we found out that a non-linear story would be to time intensive to implement.

Each of the three levels has it’s own small story to reflect on one positive and one negative aspect of quantum computing.

Overarching story

The player starts at a small company that is researching a quantum computer. The company does not have many employees yet and there is no manufacturing going on.

During the first level, the player will be the first to build a quantum computer. Being the first to build that quantum computer leads to the company growing very fast. A manufacturing area is added and there are a lot more employees doing research.

The company is happy with the performance of the player as an employee and gets promoted.

After his promotion, the player gets the task to update the digital security of the company. Different attackers have tried to get into the system and the player needs to build a firewall to defend against those attackers and against virusses.
The player fails in building this firewall, even though he lasted a long time. The company is not happy with this and the player is demoted to work in the factory.
In the main hub, the player can see that the company has taken measures to increase security, like placing cameras in the building.

Working in the factory, the player assembles different parts of technology. Next to the player is a robot, who is doing the same thing. The robots starts out slower than the player, but he gets an upgrade and starts to be faster. The player needs to work faster to keep up, and could make more mistakes. Once the player catches up with the robot, the robot gets another upgrade.
Finally, the player can not keep up with the speed of the robot, while keeping the same accuracy. The player gets fired from his job.

While walking to the exit of the factory, the player can see that most of the workers in the factory have been replaced by robots. When the player gets outside though, he sees the good outcomes of quantum computing as well.

The Levels

The first level is a racing game. The player races to be the first company that build a quantum computer.

The second level is a puzzle maze game. In the first stage, attackers send bits and virusses to the company’s server. By altering the routes in the maze and by placing blockages, the player can block the bits and virusses from reaching the server.
In the second stage, qubits are added. These are faster and come from more directions, so it is harder for the player to keep defending the server.

The third level is an repetitive action level. The player has to build a piece of equipment over and over again, but with small changes. These changes can include orientation, size etc. The computer gets faster and faster, which means the player has to speed up as well, but without becoming too inaccurate. Once the player can not catch up to the robot anymore, the player loses.
