Video Editing

In addition to my study, I have learned to video edit. I did this by making a video completely from scratch. Coming up with an initial idea, writing a "script", doing a so-called rough cut, and adding some details to make it more aesthetically pleasing.
I did some reasearch to find the best free video editor and ended up using HitFilm Express. I really enjoyed this editor and I think it allows to add a lot of personal touches.

Laser Engraver

During the fifth module of my study program, a hackaton was organised. Every participating group got three days to come up with any technical product that creates art. There was only one rule: the main part needs to be made from an old DVD-player.
My project group and I decided on making a "live" laser engraver. A webcam will to capture a picture. This picuture will then be converted to black and white pixels, based on the contrast of the colours. The black pixels will be printed, using a laser.
The laser sits on the rails of the DVD-drive. For the x-axis, we found an old scanning printer. We converted this axis' size to the width of the picture. The precision of th height of the picture (the amount of pixels) was converted with Arduino to the motor moving the DVD-player rails. This made the the y-axis. Using an optical sensor on the y-axis, a feedback loop was created to try to prevent the motor of the DVD-drive rail from overshooting and making an inaccurte picture.
The idea was to use the laser of the DVD-player as the engraver. But after a full day of trying different voltages and lenses to enhance the power of this laser without any luck, our professor was kind enough to borrow us a stronger, bigger laser.
Our project group won the hackaton out of 8 other groups, with a shared first place.

SolidWorks

Alongside my studies, I learned to use SolidWorks. This is a great addition to myself as a Creative Technology studetns and will definetly come in handy.

Project Module 3

During this module I got the chance to work with an external client. My project group and I worked for a library in the Netherlands. They are moving into a new building and they have some space for a brainstorming room. Our challenge was to make this room as stimulating as possible, using technology.
We took a lot of inspiration from the Design Lab, a creative work space at the University of Twente. We did a lot of research about what evokes a creative mind and active behaviour. Like big open windows, light colors and nature-like elemets. There will also be a table with an implemented LED-strip. The colour of the light will help guide a meeting. And of course there will be white-board material everywhere, for a quick access to writing down ideas.

Project Module 2

This module is all about smart environments. This means that our project result should also be suitable for a smart environment.
My group and I decided to focus our project on developing countries. We came up with an idea that should improve peoples daily food intake, while also educating them on how to have a proper, healthy diet themselves.
The way we tried to achieve this is, is by a central machine. This is basically a website where people can sign in and enter their diets. Next, the website saves these results in a table, which Processing can access. Then, Processing calculates what vitmamins are missing in the users diet. Via Arduino we then turn on a light in the machine, indicating from what box the user can grab a supplement.
We obviously had to keep in mind that some people in developing countries are illiterate, so we use pictures instead of text to show what people have been eating and what they might need to eat more of. This way they know for what foods they are taking the supplements. Hopefully next time they wont need the supplement anymore.
A picture will be up as soon as the final result is all put together and working well.

Arduino

In the first year of my study program, I learned to work with Arduino. I started by doing several small assignments, starting with simply making some LEDs blink and later controlling a little servo. In my first year my project partner and I made an automated system that waters your plant when your not at home. It also rotated the plant towars the light. I am now in my second year of the study program and I am fully able to use Arduino to my ability. I know how to measure the precision of sensors, and how to callibrate them.
I am keen to continue to learn more anout Arduino. I think the only boundary to Arduino is your imagination.

Final Video Project

The video for our video project is finally done! We decided to make a dating simulating video. So basically the main character, David, went on a date with Romy. By making decisions, such as hugging her or shaking her hand, you can have a really nice date, or one that is super awkward.
The choices we put in our video lead to several different scenarios. The date starts off at Davids home, then you can decide whether the two of you are going to order pizza, or bake pancakes. The latter one is the awkward option. After dinner you can choose between going to the theatres or going to the park. Both these options include choices on how tp flirt with the date.
Eventually there are two dates that end well, the other ones do not.
Here are two pictures of the same setting, yet different levels of awkwardness.

Bullet Journal

First of all, let me explain to you what a bullet journal is. A bullet journal is a planning system made from scratch. This gives you the freedom to do whatever you want. The most common way to use it, is for to-do-lists. Decorating the journal is usually a big part of it as well.
I started my bullet journal when I was sixteen years old. It is something i love to do in my spare time. I have definitely have made some progress since I started. Journaling is something I still love. It allows me to be creative and productive at the same time. It also doesn't take up as much time. You can realy make it as complicated as you desire, or just keep it simple. Since I take my bullet journal pretty serious and started to actually be proud of my spreads I decided to make a studygram about it. This is basically an instagram page to showcase my spreads and other pretty notes.
I have included some pictures of my current bullet journal below, to give you an idea.

Programming

I made a creature for the programming class. I decided to make a penguin as it's my favourite animal and it consists of somehwat simple shapes. I'm still working on it and it's not quite what I want it to be yet. A picture of my creature will be up as soon as I am content with the result.

Art

Doing arts is something I've always loved. In my short life span I have tried many different styles of art and tried to develop my own. Styles I have tried include realistic, doodling and cartoon-like people.Below this post I put some pictures.
I am still developing my art skills in my spare time. I am also still playing around with different styles, but I am currently realy focussed on my bullet journal. I explain more about this in a later portfolio post.
