Last week me and a friend went to the Reality Check Festival in the city center of Enschede. This event was hosted by Saxion XR Lab, from Hogeschool Saxion. At the event there were many companies, which had time slots for their presentations. Sadly there were multiple companies that we were interested in, which were at the same time, so we had to choose one over the other. The first presentation we went to was by Media.Monks on their interactive website they made for Getty museum. The website was about Persepolis, an ancient Persian city, which they made a digital reconstruction of. I was amazed to see all the effort they put into this project, consulting historians and creating the hundreds of assets themselves.
Next we saw a presentiation by Ready Set Studios, which is a virtual production company. They use an extremely big LED screen to display ultra realistic environments for advertisements, music videos and movies. This makes it seem as if the actors are actually in that environment. Using this method is sustainable as well, a big team of people working on the project do not have to take a plane to a foreign country to shoot the video, which saves on carbon emissions.
