I started 3D printing in 2022 after showing interest in consumer 3D printing, after alot of research I chose the Ender 3 v2. Using Fusion 360 and Solidworks I can create custom models and designs..
Using Cura we can adjust our print settings, these may include ; Nozzle print temperature, How many print layers, Infil %, Supports etc.
The unqiue ability for Cura to generate instructions to print your 3D Model is a marvel. I can't wait to learn more and play around with settings!
To be able to print a few essentials are required, on the software side of things we require a 3D modeling software, the most common in the industry are Solidworks and Fusion360.
When I started i had no knowledge in either, however thanks to online tutorials and my own interest I can now model.
Once the models have been created (accurate to scale) a program is required to 'splice' model. Essentially spliting the model into printable layers. This is done using Ultimaker's Cura.
As mentioned earlier there are many different print materials, from metal to wood it can all be done with the right price. My printer uses PLA (plastic), the PLA is heated to 200-210 c to be printed
The unqiue hobby of 3D printing has pulled me into the world of 3D modelling and printing designs, daily improvments and random 'stuff'. The satifsying vibrations of the motor and whirr compisates for the occasional failed print. I have so much more to learn, in both Solidworks and Fusion360 but I know learning these skills will be valuable in my study and in the future.
