Last september the 5th, me and some friends went to visit the Gogbot festival which was a pleasantly surprising experience. I wasn’t really sure what it was gonna turn out to be but usually these kinds of technology festivals tend to get pretty preachy about the dangers of technology pretty quickly. Now those types of installations were there but there were enough other pieces with more fun/different messages to offset the more serious ones which made for a very enjoyable visit.

Sadly, I couldn’t stay for as long as I would have wanted. I’m not yet living in Enschede, so due to train times I had to leave a little earlier and I didn’t get to see everything. Of what I did see though, there was one installation I want to highlight.

Right when you entered the first floor of pieces, there was this large circular cage lined with lots of rgb-leds on the inside. It looked impressive, but I didn’t think much of it at first because it seemed like just a fancy rgb panel flashing random colors. However they were playing music from Blade Runner 2049 (one of my favorite films) while the cage was doing it’s thing, which changed my pessimistic perspective a bit. Once you stepped into the cage and the installation started it very effectively gave off the vibe of the dystopian setting the film takes place in and that reminded me what a great movie 2049 actually was.
